Public Relation Etiquette-General Public:

When a person deals with the general public the work of public relation is in motion. The dealings can be made graciously or clumsily, haphazardly or with irregularity and without attention. Beside the counterman who is handling or dealing with the general public at so many government offices or places like railways, post-office, banks, treasury office, water and electricity, and so on, there are special public relation officers in many commercial organizations whose duties are to perpetuate the goodwill of the concerned office among the masses and outsiders.
Proficiency:
Efficient is keynote of a public relations officer. In smaller office the person at the reception handles the public relation job like meeting enquiries, guiding outsiders to right persons and sections. But, in reality the PRO’s job is a specialized one. He must have knowledge of the whole range of activities of the organizations. He should be able to help outsiders to sort out their particular problems and advise them as to the right course to follow.
For commercials offices, a good public relations man is an asset. He is soft-spoken, well-tempered, having wide knowledge and experience in the line. The prospective customer’s first contact is with the PRO of the firm. The latter’s encouraging words and advice will prompt the customer to decide in favor of the firm’s product.
